Digital Narcisso Michelle Rogers is exhibiting new works at the Hot Art Fair Basel. The fair runs from 15th June to the 20th. Michelle's work is on stand C4.The work is concerned with figures caught up in natural and machine made landscapes. Rogers asks us to consider a future where our very nature is in question. This is the frailty of being human in the 2010 landscape, weather constructed digitally, man made.
'While I painted these paintings I was thinking how computers are changing the way people relate to the world. How these figures interact with these strange and surreal landscapes are my results. Landscapes from my childhood exist as a digital image on my computer, mixed with images of functional cold soulless landscapes like carparks and the like were remixed into the paintings. Somewhere between nature and concrete, human and machine. This meditation on singularity is comprised of thickly painted oil paintings using copious amounts of silver paint.
"I have been considering the question of post human for many years since I first heard Christian Botanski discuss it at a lecture in Rome. At that time it all felt so very far away but recently I see that alarmingly these issues are becoming an almost unquestioned and accepted reality ". - Said Rogers.
